The Message of Christmas: Christ’s Coming (3 of 4)
Rescue!
1 Timothy 1:15, Galatians 4:4-5

1.    Let’s think about the message of Christmas.

Matthew 2:2 (ESV) –
“Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?”

Jesus’ birth marked the switch from BC to AD.  BC means Before Christ and AD or  Anno Domini is Latin for – in the year of the Lord.

Galatians 4:4-5 (ESV) –
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,  to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”

1 Timothy 1:15 (ESV) –
“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”

The words redeem and save.

The glorious news of Christmas is that the Father has sent His son to save.  The message of Christmas is about the free offer of rescue!

2.    Christ came according to God’s perfect timing and plan to deliver us from our dreadful default condition of slavery to sin and death.

Galatians 4:4-5 (ESV) –
“...when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,  to redeem...”

Genesis 3:15 (ESV) –
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring;  he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

Genesis 12:2-3 (ESV) –
“...I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.

Matthew 1:21 (ESV) –
“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

3.    Christ came to save sinners.

1 Timothy 1:15 (ESV) –
“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”

Luke 19:10 (ESV) –
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Luke 2:10-11 (ESV) –
“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Romans 6:23 (ESV) –
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The glorious news of Christmas is that the Father has sent His son to save.  The message of Christmas is about the free offer of rescue!
