Be Convinced of the value of Scripture

1.      Because of the testimony of others

2 Timothy 3:14-15a
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures,"   NIV

Deuteronomy 11:18-20
"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,"   NIV

Joshua 24:15
"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."   NIV

Psalm 71:17
"Since my youth, O God, You have taught me, and to this day I declare Your marvelous deeds."   NIV

Ecclesiastes 12:1
"Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them"—   NIV

2.      Because it tells us about salvation

2 Timothy 3:15
"and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."   NIV

John 5:36-40
"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given Me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent Me. And the Father who sent Me has Himself testified concerning Me. You have never heard His voice nor seen His form, nor does His word dwell in you, for you do not believe the One He sent. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life."   NIV

Acts 10:43
"All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name."   NIV

1 Peter 1:10-11
"Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow"   NIV

Matt 5:17
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."   NIV

3.      Because it is inspired

2 Timothy 3:16a
"all Scripture is God-breathed"   NIV

2 Peter 1:21
"For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."   NIV

Luke 1:67-70
"His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:
'Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because He has come and has redeemed His people.
He has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of His servant David
(as He said through His holy prophets of long ago)"
NIV

2 Samuel 23:1-2
"These are the last words of David:
'The oracle of David son of Jesse,
the oracle of the man exalted by the Most High,
the man anointed by the God of Jacob,
Israel's singer of songs:
'The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me;
His word was on my tongue.'"
NIV

Nehemiah 9:30
"For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you admonished them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you handed them over to the neighboring peoples."   NIV

Jeremiah 2:1-2
"The word of the Lord came to me:  'Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:
I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved Me
and followed Me through the desert,
through a land not sown.'"
NIV

Jeremiah 30:2-3
"This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: 'Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.'"   NIV

Mark 12:35-36
"While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, He asked, 'How is it that the teachers of the law say that the Christ is the son of David?  David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:
'The Lord said to my Lord:
Sit at My right hand
until I put your enemies
under your feet.'"
NIV

Acts 28:23-25
"They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe. They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: 'The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your forefathers when He said through Isaiah the prophet:'"   NIV

Hebrews 3:7-8
"So, as the Holy Spirit says:
'Today, if you hear His voice,
do not harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion,
during the time of testing in the desert,'"
NIV

Hebrews 10:15-16
"The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First He says:
'This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put My laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.'"
 NIV

Matt 5:18
"I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."   NIV

"Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."   NIV

Ephesians 4:22-24
"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."   NIV

Psalm 119:97-105
"Oh, how I love Your law!
I meditate on it all day long.
Your commands make me wiser than my enemies,
for they are ever with me.
I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders,
for I obey your precepts.
I have kept my feet from every evil path
so that I might obey Your word.
I have not departed from Your laws,
for You Yourself have taught me.
How sweet are Your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
I gain understanding from Your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light for my path."
